rohanson: (Paris Wow)
[personal profile] rohanson
The afternoon had been one of the most pleasant Faramir had spent in Wellington in a long time. He'd been practicing the billiard game that Paris had gotten him so hooked on, and, to be honest, he was anxious to show off his skills a bit. They'd ended up at 'The White Room', wanting to put a bit of distance between themselves and some of Theodred's regular haunts. Four games and two pitchers of beer later, the two friends conceded that a draw was a fine place to leave it. They strolled out into the early afternoon air, and said their goodbyes. Paris wanted to check on a supply shipment due to arrive that day, and Faramir knew Dave needed to stop by Hugo's place to tend to his cat and give everything a once-over for his out of town friend. Paris had mentioned he had no plans for the evening, and would meet up with Dave at the cabin after checking on his shipment.

As he drove back to the cabin, he thought about the time he'd spent with Paris, and what a good mood his friend was in this afternoon. It was a beautiful day. The morning rains had cleared, and brilliant sunshine helped the cool winter air feel a bit warmer.

Times like this were to be savored. A beautiful day, cheerful moods… ah, perhaps the timing might be right? Dave had been in excellent spirits since returning from his trip to Auckland to meet Paris' family. He had shared a few of those memories with Faramir during a quiet walk on the beach. Dave's commitment to Paris had grown strong and true. It gave the man a grounding Faramir knew he'd been searching for ever since he'd first met this man he'd learned to share space with in this world. Dave has spoken briefly of his conversation with Paris' mother. Just as Dave had wanted her to know of his arrangements, he wished Faramir to know as well. There had been a time in the past when Faramir was unable to shift away, and Dave had been trapped, virtually lost for many weeks. There was no way of being sure this would never happen again, and Dave needed to be able to trust Faramir to know how things stood. Faramir was honored to carry this trust.

"Dave, we are at Hugo's. I had a very pleasant time, but the rest of the afternoon is yours. Might I make a suggestion as to how to spend it?"

"A suggestion? Er, sure, I guess?"

"Paris will be home shortly. He is in very fine spirits, having bested me two games out of four. Of course, that means I held my own with two games, so I will admit my own outlook is quite cheery."

"Yeah, yeah, okay, your meeting of the mutual admiration society went well. So…?"

"I can tell you are quite content today too. Why not spend some time with Paris this afternoon? Share with him what you have shared with his mother, and myself?"

Dave knew what Faramir meant. It was something he'd looked forward to himself, but with a sense of nervousness, which now reappeared when he considered Faramir's words.

"You're very happy, and you're quite nervous. Dave, this is the way of all suitors throughout all of history in both our worlds! Why should it be any different for you? What you will ask of him is perhaps not the traditional question, but it is just as firm a commitment."

Dave smiled, and nodded as he closed the back door to Hugo's home and started back to the cabin. "I suppose that's true. The butterflies in the stomach are a good thing, right?"

"They are. If you were not nervous, I would suspect you did not take this to heart as much as I know you do. Paris loves you, there is no doubt of that. I wish this happiness for him, as I do for you. You have both become my good friends. In fact… If you would indulge me, let me bring Paris to you, Dave. This afternoon. The place you spoke of, it would be a fine site to make your intent known."

"Let me get this straight. You want to chaperone Paris? That's… weird."

"I think of you as a shadow brother, more often than not. Dave, a family is forming here, and in my small way, I wish to be a part of the event. Indulge me?"

"You realize you didn't just calm out my butterflies. I think you turned them into birds. But, yeah, I think I know what you mean. All right. You get Paris out there, and then let me take over. And no, you can't stick around for the main event."

"Of course not! I'm a meddler, but not a voyeur." Faramir chuckled. "At least I am not today. Now, I would ask that you slip away for the time being, so that I might greet Paris when he arrives. He should be here very soon."

Dave took a deep breath, knowing that when he returned he'd be with Paris. And then he was gone. Faramir smiled, and set about making a few extra preparations that might make this day a little more special for two people he had grown to love. He then settled back on the porch to await Paris' return home.
