Dave: *Paris managed to pull off a few minor miracles today, as well as the front porch. Pulling it off, that is. Now that it's completely down, it can be rebuilt from scratch. I still can't believe my good fortune to have him helping with all this. We've called for pizzas, I bought a small fridge today so we can at least keep some beers cold until the kitchens redone, and now we've both collapsed on the couch* I still can't believe you pulled that porch down like that, Paris! I swore that roof was going to get your head, but you're faster than you look!

Paris: *This cold beer is exactly what I needed after today's hard work* You thought it was gonna get me? There was one moment where I thought it was too! *laughs* But it's down now, and it wouldn't have stayed up much longer. Most of that wood was rotten all the way through.

Dave: I know, that porch scared me to death. *sips, fumbles for another slice of pizza* Really glad there's a back staircase into the place too, so there's no rush on getting the porch redone, take all the time you need, really. And I'll try to get you someplace better to sleep tomorrow, I swear I will. Can't wait for a decorator on everything, we need some basics right now!

Paris: Porch won't take long once we've got the wood. And you really want to put a hot tub out the back? *tucks into another slice* The couch is fine for a while, well once I'd beaten the dust off it! *smiles at you*

Dave: *laughs, your confidence in the project a definite relief* Still, this couch is awful. If I can finish getting the place cleaned tomorrow, that should help, though. Get us past the dust and neglect state and we can ease into some nice comfortable poverty. I'll get into town tomorrow and stock us up on some more food and such, too. Any special requests? I'm not sure what you like, actually. *smiles feebly, realizing there's so much I don't know about you*

Paris: *thinks back to my time in Wellington* There's this little deli, down a side street not far from the Firkin that does wonderful falafel. Delario's I think. Haven't tasted them in years! *Settles back into the sofa, with another slice of pizza, and looks at you* You know, I didn't expect to meet anyone else from Rings in town. None of the actors anyway. So, how come you ended up back here? *hopes you don't think I'm prying*

Dave: Sounds good - I'll stop in Delario's and bring home some goodies! *I notice you settling back, and it's nice to see you don't mind a good long chat. I'm sure once you find out how much I like to talk you'll regret it, but till then...* Actually, I never really left after filming. Had a little apartment here, fully intended to head back for Sydney after, but um. *glancing down at my beer, picking at the label on the bottle* Met someone. He was a good reason to stay. Broke up not long ago, but it's too late for me, I've grown roots here now. *and a secondary personality, but I'm not saying that aloud*

Paris: *listens to you talk, noticing it was a he you broke up with* It's a good place, I enjoyed hanging around here myself, even if it wasn't for too long. *takes another drink* And sorry about the breakup. I know what that's like, but at least with Sophie, I knew it wasn't going to last.

Dave: Ah, sorry mate, Really. It's never any fun, I know. *notes your beer's nearly gone, goes to grab two more* Well, I know at least one person's glad to have you back around. It's either that or you read in the tabloids about the Aussie actor who pulled a house down on his head. Have to say, your timing is dead-on. *softer* And it's good to be with friends after a breakup, hope I can give you a few grins there, too. Really.

Paris: Nah, no fun. You ever need someone to talk to, I'm pretty much a captive audience here! *accepts the beer with a grin, and laughs at your joking* Hey, I'm a great believer in things happening for a reason, so perhaps I was meant to be here to save you from being a just another headline in a tacky newspaper! *notices the change in your voice* I'm sure we are gonna have a lot of fun with this place!

Dave: *your tone's infectious, and it's great to hear you're enthusiasm for the project. It's a nice offset to the circumstances for getting the house, I'm really hesitant to tell you about Hugo's disappearance, but I might soon - I don't have to mention the portal, and damned well won't if I can protect you from it* Maybe you were meant to be here, yeah. And thanks - for the talk-offer, that is. Same goes for you, you know. I know we barely got acquainted during filming, but we've got a great chance to do that now. I'm glad.

Paris: It'll be good to get to know you better too. Now that I'm living in your house, might be a good idea! *I'm glad that you seem happy to have me around. This is going to be an amazing place when it's finished, and I'm looking forward to getting stuck in* Yeah, I found being on the movie a bit of a wild ride. One minute I was an extra, the next, Theodred. Didn't really get a chance to get to know anyone, apart from John, that is. John Noble? He was a really nice guy. *pauses to take a drink* You ever see any of the others you worked with?

Dave: *I try really hard not to choke on my beer. Ah, hell, people are going to drop by or call, he's going to hear things, he hangs out at the Firkin for god's sakes, he'll start seeing people! I might as well tell him a little* Well, actually, yeah. Quite a few of them are back in Wellington now, Paris. John's here, and others, too. *I clear my throat, rubbing my neck a little nervously* The man I broke up with recently? Craig Parker.

Paris: Really? I was surprised to see you here, never mind anyone else. *that's at least four of us, and you seem strangely nervous about telling me this* The place must have really left an impression on people. I'll be glad to see John again. *I shift around on the couch a little so I can look at you properly* Craig? Ah.

Dave: Yeah, Zid does get under your skin, that's for sure. Don't be surprised if you end up staying longer than you expected to. *I fidget a little under your more intent look now, I want to tell you more but I want to keep you safe too, Christ, I've been in this quandary how many times now? And they always find out the secrets in the long run, anyway. But I have to take this slowly.* You're welcome to stay here as long as you like, Paris - sure I like having the help, but even as a friend, once the place is done. Don't think I'll be giving you the boot, all right?

Paris: Well, I don't know what drew me here, but I tend to follow my instincts, and think I'll be sticking around for a while. *Now I know I was right, there is something happening that you don't want to tell me, but I'm a patient guy. Maybe when you know me better, you'll feel more comfortable sharing the secret* Thanks! * grin widely at your generous offer* But when we are done renovating, I'll be paying you rent, okay? *smiles* So, anyone else I might run into?

Dave: *Okay, you're smiles pretty infectious, I have to admit* You've got some interesting instincts, I would venture to say. And I'll take you up on that rent only when you've gotten a decent job, otherwise, I don't want to hear a word of it! *you're giving me a brightly curious look, damn you, hard not to give in to it* Yeah, hang out at the Firkin and you're likely to see Harry, Karl, Lawrence, Cate, John, Craig, Orli, Viggo, hell even Pete's around. Um, and if you see Hugo, you'll let me know? Been looking for the guy lately.

Paris: *sounds like a fair deal on the rent to me* Okay, it's a deal! *then I nearly choke on my beer* They all live here? In Wellington? *I know I'm looking at you with amazement all over my face* And Hugo Weaving is missing? *perhaps it hadn't been a good idea to follow my instincts after all, not this time! Then something occurs to me* So is Wellington attracting actors in general, or just Rings actors?

Dave: I don't know for sure if he's missing, or playing a joke on us, or gone off to play recluse or what, to be honest. *I blurt that out, it's too hard to keep up the front anymore* I'm worried sick about him. Stupid git's my best friend. He gives me this house and vanishes. Pretty strange is all I know. *I catch myself from ranting any more, and take a deep breath* As far as I know, it's mostly just the Rings actors that keep coming back. There may be others *god forbid!* but I wouldn't know about them, I suppose.

Paris: *I hate to see you this upset about someone who obviously means a lot to you, someone who thinks enough of you to give you a house, even if it is a wreck at the moment. I reach out and squeeze your shoulder in a gesture of support* Hey, Dave? *I wait until you're looking at me, and smile reassuringly* I'm sure Hugo is okay. A friend as good as he sounds doesn't leave without a reason. Maybe he just needed to be on his own for a while, and it sounds like he had everything planned out before he went. I'm sure he'll be in touch.

Dave: I hope you're right, Paris. Hell, you probably are, there's got to be a decent explanation for the vanishing act. *I'm a little calmer again, have to admit your smile and touch has a good soothing effect on me, maybe I just needed someone to vent those frustrations at and it's nice to see you didn't flinch at my outburst* I'm sorry, really. It's your first night here, I should be seeing about making you comfortable! And you really need to eat that last slice of pizza before I do. *grins and nudges you towards it*

Paris: *I'm glad to see you visibly relax. It's not good to bottle things up, and I don't mind listening when you need to talk, or vent* Thanks, mate! *I grin at you as I take the pizza, and look around as I eat it* Well, it looks like the sofa for me, and I don't think you can do much to make it any more comfortable! *I wink at you so you know I'm teasing* its fine! Believe me, I've slept on worse. *stretches* What's the futon like? You gonna get any sleep on that?

Dave: It's not the floor, and that's about all it's got going for it. It's pretty dusty. I've got a few blankets in the boot of my car - I figure you can have one for the couch and I'll cover up the futon with the other. It's warm enough up there I won't need a second blanket. *I give you a sincerely apologetic look* So, in your fantasies of moving in with rich famous actors, did you take into account the bad sofa springs and dust? *I shake my head, laughing ironically* I promise this place won't always be this bad, if you can just give me a few days, I'll get some decent furniture brought in.

Paris: A blanket will do fine. *grins at your quip about fantasies* Hey, how did you know my favourite fantasy? Brad Pitt and dust bunnies!! *smiles at you again* And it won't take long to fix this place up, so please, don't worry about it. I'll just keep focused on thoughts of that hot tub!

Dave: Yeah, can't wait for that! In fact, what do you think of working on the hot tub right after the front porch project? *I squirm around on the couch to face you more directly, really excited about the prospect* I know you'll be needing some help with sore muscles, and the hot tub would be a great way you can relax with all this work you'll be putting in around here. I'd like to have that hot tub around to help you out with that. *a pause, I consider not mentioning it, but you've definitely got a relaxed air about you that makes me think you won't take it wrong* In the meantime, I've been told I manage a pretty good backrub - if you need some help with the aches and all, just ask.

Paris: Yeah, okay, sounds good to me. Why don't I check out the support out there first thing tomorrow? See what it's gonna take to make it safe? *my mind goes over possible options as you are talking* It would be a good place to relax at the end of the day *I'm a little surprised by the offer of backrubs, but I'm not going to turn it down! I grin at you* Thanks, I'll be taking you up on that, mind, and it works both ways. I've been told I'm pretty good with my hands. *I know it was an innocent offer and that's exactly how I'm taking it, but am curious as to what your hands will feel like on my skin*

Dave: Well, so far today my hard work's consisted of dusting down cobwebs and installing a door lock, so I haven't earned the privilege yet - but you pulled down the front porch! And hauled the wood off to a pile! That's major, mate. Turn sideways. *I nudge you to pull your shirt off, glad I'm out of eyeshot as I take a second to admire the line of your back, then remember this is for medicinal purposes only. I reach to press palms into your lower back, working my way upward* That feel all right? Yell if I push too hard, but if I go too lightly you'll still be hurting in the morning.

Paris: *I turn around, slipping my shirt off - guess I'm about to find out what your hands feel like* Yeah, yeah that feels fine. *Oh, that feels good! Your hands slowly work their way up to my shoulders, which were pretty tense, and dig in hard. It's all I can do not to moan out loud, and can't help arching a little as your hands move lower again*

Dave: *I bite my lip at the sounds you're making and the way you stretch under my hands, and just keep working over your back, pausing when I find the tight spots and working on those till the muscle knots ease out* Yeah, we definitely need that hot tub. You're tense as hell, Paris. *I've gotten your back fairly well relaxed, and work across your shoulders, pressing fingers into your neck till you roll your head around, making appreciative noises* I'll finish up with your arms, and then I'm betting you can just fall over and get some decent sleep. I'll get the blankets when I'm done here. *Your arms are nicely muscled which makes the massage easier, I can target just where the aches should be lurking*

Paris: Ohhh, yeah, tense. That's what lugging lumber around all day will do to you. *Ahhhh! I could really get used to this* Mmmm, that's really hitting the spot, Dave. *As the tension leaves most of my body, I realise how tired I am* Yeah, Don't think I'll have any trouble sleeping now *Your hands work my arms, and I think I've discovered a new definition of bliss* Ahhhh. You do know people pay good money to feel like this, don't you *Hmm, maybe not quite what I should have said* ... to feel this relaxed! *I'm beginning to think moving in with you might have more advantages than simply bed and board*

Dave: *I can't help laughing now* I knew what you meant! And you worked hard for me today, you've earned this and then some! *stammering* I mean the pizza and a place to sleep and well, whatever you need, Paris. Just really grateful to have you around. *I finish up, give you a light slap on your shoulder, then stand up* I'll get those blankets now and I'll hit the lights, too. You're relaxed, just take advantage of that and fall over, I'll drop a blanket on you. I'll see you in the morning. Sleep well.

Paris: *I grin to myself as you fluster* its okay, Dave, I know what you meant, too! *I let myself fall back against the couch* Thanks mate *that sounds like a good idea to me, and I shift around on the couch, getting comfortable, totally relaxed. By the time you cover me with the blanket, I'm almost asleep, just managing to mumble a couple of words* Night Dave.
